Kauai Fun Vacations

Is it cheaper to buy vacation packages to Kauai or book things separately? If you recommend vacation packages, any tips on sources for great deals you've gotten in the past for Kauai? If you recommend booking things separately for Kauai, any tips on that? Gotten great deals on condos and/or car rentals? Also any bad experiences with condos and car rentals that i should avoid? What about booking travel agents?

Is the first week of October a good time to go on vacation in Kauai (Hawaii)? Is October high or low season? Will it be crowded? What will the weather be like? We plan to travel with 75+ yr olds and a 9 yr old, we are in our 30's. We plan to get a package that includes air, hotel & rental car, any tips?
