Kauai Fun Vacations

travelling to Kauai?

My husband and I are planning a trip to Kauai in February. I did not think accomodations would be so expensive. Does anyone know of any condo's, or hotels that are nice, but are on the lower end of price?

  1. Probably not Kauai does not have many hotel. That's why the cost so much. A condo would be even more then a hotel room.
  2. Check out http://www.vrbo.com to find condos that you can rent from the owner. You can save a lot of money this way. We stayed in a very nice condo next door to the 5-star Princeville Hotel and we enjoyed that very much. I think we paid around $1800 for 7 nights, but that has been a few years ago. It was an upscale condo and I'm sure you can find lower rates at other communities. The name of that condo community is Puu Poa. We stayed in unit 409. They have a pool there, but it is nothing fancy. As far as hotels go, the Kauai Hilton has some great kid friendly pools and tends to be on the lower end of the price range. Also, there is a Best Western in Kapaa that's near a beach and has about the best rates you'll find. See links below In February, you'll probably be able to watch the humpback whales!
  3. Motel Lani 808-245-2965 $36-60. "disheveled but reasonably clean" Kaiai Palms 808-246-0908 $65-85. "not a dump anymore" Hotel coral reef 843-4659 $99-149 "very basic but clean" Garden island inn $90-145 648-0154 "spotlessly clean... nice touches..aloha spirit...good place for those seeking a place to sleep without exotic grounds of a resort" Hope that helps. Aloha!
  4. My husband and I purchased a package to go Kauai for $500. We were living on O'ahu at the time (so it's considered an interisland package) If your coming from the Mainland, it will be a little bit more expensive, February is good time to go. We got our package from Expedia. It included 2 roundtrip tickets, rental car & an ocean front hotel at ResortQuest Islander on the Beach in Kapaa. It's a fairly good hotel, clean rooms, AC, right behind Coconut Market Place. It's 3 star rated hotel, ocean front & it is relaxing. It's fair but don't expect any luxury like how they offer at the Marriot. Since you asked for one that's not that expensive, ResortQuest Islander on the Beach is what I would recommend.
  5. Hawaii is very, very expensive. (My son lives on Maui). For tourists, you have picked the high season with the most expensive hotel and condo rates. Expect to pay 2 or 3 times more for EVERYTHING......... Rental car prices are ridiculous, restaurant prices are outrageous and even cooking your own meals is twice what you would pay at home...if not more. Be prepared by bringing LOTS of money or LOTS of credit on your cards.
  6. While not in a very quiet area we stayed here(Best Western Plantation Hale) and would stay again. It is located in Kapa'a which is on the east coast, so it's convenient to go either north or south. It was affordable and the condo was clean.
