Kauai Fun Vacations

Questions about visiting Kauai Hawaii?

I'm vacationing in Kauai the first week in June. Where is a nice hotel to stay at that has the best beach to swim and snorkel at? Also, be in a good location for walking or busing to a local town for restaurants and visiting shops? I would like to not have to rent a car if I don't need to. Also, there are two adventures I would like to do while visiting the island. One is to take a catamaran day trip that includes stops for snorkeling. The second is a day trip to hike, zip line, and kayak. Any suggestions for tour guides would be greatly appreciated.

  1. We stay at the Kahuna plantation in the Poipou area. There are some nice shops right across the street. I have snorkeled there many times, but there are even better beaches for snorkeling. Most people do have a rent a car on the island of Kauai as the public transportation is not too good. I have booked a catamaran day trip with the hotel itself. On the first day there, you will probably have an orientation breakfast. That is the best time to book day trips and they will have all the info you need. I know the Sheraton also does this free breakfast, but wherever you stay there are many places in the little towns where they can help you book a tour. I also enjoyed doing the movie tour and the tour to fern grotto too. I love Kauai as it is far more layed back then the other islands and more tropical too.

  3. The best suggestion I can give you on hotels that meet your criteria is the Marriott on Kalapaki beach. The beach is a great spot for swimming and learning to surf or kayak, and it's right next to the harbor mall with some good shopping and restaurants, plus it's the only hotel that offers shuttles to Kukui Grove shopping center where you can find more restaurants and shopping. Our public transportation isn't very good, so I wouldn't be relying on the bus if I were you. Renting a car isn't necessary, but if you're looking to see as much of the island as possible it is recommended. Check out Hotwire for some good deals. I suggest going here: http://www.101thingstodo.com/hawaii/kauai/index.php to check out some tour companies and plan your trips. And if you have any other questions feel free to email me.
  4. I stayed at the Kauai beach resort which is now the Hilton...this hotel has a sand pool, jacuzzi and regular pools with water slides....there is a concierge on site, a restaurant and tiki bar outside...also free cocktails from 5-6 on the veranda......We loved staying there and strongly recommend it.......I also strongly recommend the Zipline adventure but the sailboat is not as popular....there is a fun tubin adventure also that many enjoy.....attend a luau at the Princeville Resort (its the best one).......Have fun!!!!!
